Birth control treatment is an essential skill for maintaining physical and financial wellness. Learning the methods that best fit your lifestyle is key to pregnancy prevention especially if a family is not in your immediate future. Birth control can be found in family practice clinics, Planned Parenthood facilities, and county health agencies. There are forms of birth control for men and women, but many more choices are available to women. Talking with friends and relatives about their methods of birth control is a good starting point in your research to find what will work best for your situation.
Signs that you are ready to begin using birth control usually begin with a desire to become more intimate with your partner. If you find yourself in a discussion with your significant other you should select birth control as a topic of conversation. A decision should be made about who is responsible for birth control treatment, what birth control signs should both partners be aware of in case of birth control failure, and what secondary methods of birth control treatment will be adopted. There are many forms of birth control. The method chosen should be well researched, accompanied by a visit to your doctor and a discussion with your partner cohesion in your life. Pharmaceutical forms of birth control include: Birth Control pill, Depo-Provera the Birth Control shot, and Ortho Evra the Birth Control Patch. These have to be administered by a licensed doctor. Women who smoke should use caution when using them. Birth Control devices that are available for women are: IUD which can provide 10 years of pregnancy prevention. Implanon the Birth Control Implant, the Birth Control Sponge, NuvaRing the Birth Control Vaginal Ring, Cervical Cap, Diaphram, and Female Condom are other devices that can be inserted. These devices are removable and most are available over the counter at your local drug store. Natural methods of preventing pregnancy involve tracking physical and emotional changes during a woman’s menstrual cycles. This is called Fertility Awareness-Based Methods (FAMs). It requires a couple to chart a woman’s monthly cycle (over the course of year for best results) to discover her ovulation days as to avoid having sex during her most fertile time. This method works when couples have the determination to stick to the plan. Breastfeeding as a Birth Control treatment is possible when a woman nurses her infant EXCLUSIVELY. Which can be difficult for a working mom or any mom.

Let’s start with the basics of Multiple Sclerosis Informationor it’s more commonly known title, MS, it’s a disease of the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord). Inflammation occurs when the body’s own immune system attacks itself, causing nerve damage. Researchers believe the inflammation to be connected to a virus, genetics or even a combination of both, however no one knows for sure. Multiple Scleroses Signs usually present themselves between the ages of 20 and 40, and starts with the vision. It is not certain as to why more women are affect by this disease than men. Though research is being done to focus on the connection with hormones; women tend to be diagnosed more often during pre-menopausal. Though there is no known cure for MS, most people diagnose with the disease live a long normal life.

MS symptoms can range from suffering very few to experiencing more severe symptoms; even leading to paralysis, unable to walk, speak, or write. Some of the first Multiple Sclerosis Symptoms people experience is blurred or double vision, blindness in one eye, distortion of red-green color. Muscle weakness, difficulty with balance and coordination. Symptoms can become severe enough that it can impair the ability to walk or stand. In worst cases it can cause partial paralysis. MS can effect some cases with dizziness, a prickly feeling of pins and needles in the abdomen, speech impediment, or even tremors. Occasionally there are people will also experience memory loss, poor judgment, depression, and hearing loss.

The most common Multiple Sclerosis Symptoms effect the muscles with weakness, and tremors. The bowels and bladder with constipation, and leakage. The eyes with blurred, and / or uncontrollable rapid eye movement. They may experience numbness or pain, effecting the face, arms and legs. The nerves and brain may have decreased attention span, or poor judgment. May experience some issues sexually as well, like with problems with producing lubrication or achieving erections. Difficulty with speech, such as slurred, or not understandable. Sometimes one may have a difficulty with swallowing.

Multiple Sclerosis Signs can mimic other nervous system disorders making testing for MS very important. Diagnosing MS is done by eliminating out other disorders. Doctors may be able to diagnosis someone with MS at the first onset of symptoms. While others, doctors may not be able to diagnosis the onset of symptoms as Multiple Sclerosis. Baffling symptoms can lead to years of misdiagnosis.

Multiple Sclerosis Treatment There is no known cure for MS. Treatment for Multiple Sclerosis can include medication which when taken on a long-term basis can help reduce the onset of physical disabilities. Steroids have been used to control the severity of attacks. Therapies such as physical, speech, and occupational, can be beneficial to some MS sufferers. There are helpful support groups available too.

Multiple Sclerosis can come on in a series of attacks. An episode can vary, lasting days, weeks, or even months. The spontaneous trigger of an episode is as confusing as the exact cause of the disease itself. Research is being done to find a cure and better treatments and therapies to control the severity of the MS attacks.

A physician should be consulted if one is experiencing symptoms that resemble those of Multiple Sclerosis. The earlier the diagnosis the sooner treatment can be administered to reduce physical disabilities. Controlling the severity of the attacks and helping one to return to a normal life in between attacks.

1) HDL Cholesterol Information
HDL (high- density lipoprotein) cholesterol (alternately known as “good cholesterol”) is often spoken of in contrast with LDL (low- density lipoprotein), or “bad,” cholesterol; it carries about thirty percent of the blood cholesterol in a healthy individual. Actually, particles of the two types of cholesterol are identical; though it is true that people with higher HDL- C levels seem to have fewer heart problems than those with higher LDL- C levels. However, it has never been proven that one’s health can be improved by increasing one’s level of HDL- C. The signs, symptoms, and treatments that I will discuss in this article will apply to abnormally low levels of good cholesterol, which can be every bit as dangerous as having abnormally high levels of bad cholesterol; and the two are connected, too: HDL cholesterol helps to remove LDL cholesterol from the blood stream and transport it to the kidneys. Such an unhealthy balance can result from obesity, lack of exercise, and heavy smoking and alcohol consumption. (A healthy HDL cholesterol level is a minimum of 40 to 50 mg / dl in men and from 50 to 60 in women.)

2) Low HDL cholesterol symptoms
Low HDL cholesterol does not produce true “symptoms” as such; only a blood test can diagnose the condition. But one of the most dangerous results of low HDL is blood clotting. A fatty plaque builds up in an artery and hinders the flow of the blood; and may develop into an atherosclerosis calcification. Red and white blood cells become trapped in the vessels, which is what causes clotting, and if the buildup becomes too great, the walls of the vessels can burst. This can lead to kidney failure, a stroke, or a heart attack— or even to internal bleeding, according to a recent study undertaken by the Mayo Clinic. Erectile dysfunction is also a common consequence of low HDL cholesterol, as the flow of blood to this and other body parts is reduced.

3) Low HDL cholesterol signs
Signs of abnormally low HDL- C can include mental disorders such as depression and anxiety disorder caused by the failure of the brain cells to communicate normally. Another disease that commonly accompanies low HDL is known as Tangier disease, which can reduce good cholesterol to only five mg / dl. Many body parts show outward signs of Tangier disease; the tonsils, for instance, often turn orange.

4) Low HDL cholesterol treatment
Treatment is naturally aimed mainly at increasing the level of good cholesterol and decreasing the level of bad cholesterol. This consists in large part of reforming one’s lifestyle. Some foods (those containing too much trans fat and hydrogenated oils, such as fried foods and cookies) increase LDL and should be reduced; others (fresh vegetables and fruits, nuts, and beans) increase HDL, so plenty of these should be eaten, as should dishes containing large amounts of niacin and vitamin C. Patients should also get plenty of vigorous exercise, which can include taking a walk for at least fifteen minutes a day.

There is no medicine that will work specifically to raise levels of HDL cholesterol. Some drugs, however, are known to decrease LDL cholesterol. And every five years, anyone over the age of twenty should have a fasting lipoprotein profile done. The patient eats and drinks nothing for nine to twelve hours, after which physicians measure his level of all types of cholesterol.

Basic Facts About ADD

Attention deficit disorder (ADD) is more commonly known these days as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). There are different forms of the disorder that share common elements but differ in the tendencies of the sufferers. Some people with the condition display hyperactivity and/or impulsiveness whereas others display inattentiveness.

The symptoms in childhood involve the inability to concentrate on schoolwork, fidgeting, and an inability to pay attention, but this condition is not limited to children. Many of these symptom persist into adulthood with the only difference being that adults may be better able to cope with or disguise the symptoms. Even controlled and hidden the symptoms may still have other effects in the life of the person with ADD. Adult ADD sufferers may have secondary conditions like anxiety and mood disorders, therefore it is important to diagnose and treat the problems while the ADD (AKA ADHD) sufferer is still a child.

While ADD information is limited when it comes to the exact origin of the disorder researchers have made a few discoveries: it is hereditary. It is believed that the vast majority of cases have been passed down from parents. The origins of the condition within the brain may have to do with malfunctioning neurotransmitters.

It is thought that alcohol and tobacco use by a mother while pregnant may have an impact on whether or not the unborn child will have ADD.

Additional ADD symptoms
The tendency to procrastinate especially when tasks involve concentration.
Difficulty finishing tasks that have been started.
Disorganized living or work space.
Much like autism, ADD sufferers can have a hard time reading social cues and forming relationships.

Hyperactivity and inattentiveness
There are two sub-types of attention deficit disorder. While some people with ADD signs display a greater degree of inattentiveness some display a greater degree of hyperactivity. In the predominantly hyperactive type, the person with the condition often appears to be driven and seem to have difficulty keeping still. Daydreaming is an issue for those with the inattentive type, they have trouble paying attention.

Diagnosing ADD
One problem that occurs is that the symptoms of the condition are mistaken for something else. A child maybe seen as willful or defiant, an adult may be seen as complacent or indifferent. These things are often the result of the difficulty of focusing that comes with ADD. Because the condition occurs across all IQ levels, it can hide above average intelligence in gifted children, this is yet another reason for it to be diagnosed as early in life as possible. Poor performance in school due to undiagnosed ADD can lower a child’s self-esteem and limit their prospects in life. It is often mistaken for other conditions like dyslexia. There are no tests for ADD beyond rating the sufferer against a list of known symptoms. The symptoms must appear to such an extent that they hinder a person’s ability to function at the basic life tasks involved in work or learning.

Treatments for ADD
Chemical treatments for attention deficit disorder tend to fall into one of two categories, stimulants like Adderall and Ritalin, and non-stimulants like Zoloft and Prozac. Antidepressants are useful in dealing with the effects of ADD and ADD treatment, Counseling is also effective in treating ADD. It should be noted that any drug used to treat the disorder will have a list of side effects.

The effects of ADD
More than a third of ADD sufferers fail to graduate from high school. Less than 5% of them ever get a college degree. This shows the difficulty of overcoming the condition. They also have higher rates of teen pregnancy and auto crashes.

Asthma is a chronic condition that involves airway inflammation. It causes redness and irritation of the tissues inside the air passages that is always present, but increases when one comes in contact with external irritants. The increase in inflammation is what makes one’s airways susceptible to recurring bouts of decreased air flow. During periods of escalated inflammation, constriction of the muscles surrounding the air pipes causes the airflow to severely decrease, creating an asthma attack.

Asthma symptoms include coughing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, wheezing, or painful breathing. Asthma related coughing occurs during attempting to take a deep breath and is sometimes accompanied by the ejection of sputum. Coughing alone does not constitute an asthma diagnosis however, if it is accompanied with other symptoms it could very well be asthma related. Shortness of breath due to asthma often manifests during periods of increased activity or high stress. Wheezing is also seen to accompany high emotions and a boost in physical exercise nevertheless; it does not always depend upon these factors. The breathing restriction involved in asthma related wheezing is often more severe than just a shortness of breath and the person affected experiences periods of intermittent affliction. Wheezing begins suddenly, is usually worse at night and in the morning, and can be enhanced by cold weather or heartburn as well as the previously mentioned activity and stress. It may go away without intervention or one may need a bronchodilator to help it subside. Chest tightness that is felt during asthma episodes can sometimes be confused as heart related however, a distinction is often observed. If you notice an inward pull of the skin between the ribs when inhaling, it is likely your chest tightness is asthma related. Painful breathing is often a result of a combination of the inflammation and constriction and is more prominent when breathing deeply.

People who have asthma often have allergies of some sort (although not all do) and this combination often leads to more severe cases because many asthma triggers are also common allergens. Typical influences that provoke asthma symptoms are animal hair and dander, dust, chemicals that are found in air or food, exercise, a change in weather, exposure to mold or pollen, respiratory sicknesses, extreme stress or excitement, and smoke inhalation (especially cigarette smoke). If you experience reactions to these triggers there is a good chance you may need to see a doctor.

Your physician will be able to assess your condition and provide you with asthma information as well as asthma treatment options. Mild to moderate cases of asthma are most commonly treated with inhaled corticosteroids, which is administered through a inhalation device used only during times of asthmatic distress. Severe cases of asthma are commonly treated with a combination of control medications (leukotriene receptor antagonist pills) and bronchodilator inhalers, but sometimes require the use of oxygen as well.

If your doctor concludes that asthma is the cause of breathing troubles he or she will most likely recommend one of the previously listed treatments as well as the development of a plan of action. This plan of action will be established by you and your doctor and will address ways that you can avoid triggers, how you should use your medications, and how to deal with an unexpected attack. Knowing asthma signs and triggers is the best way to manage your condition but avoidance of irritants is not always possible. The best thing you can do is have your medication on hand, use it as prescribed, and do what you can to diminish contact with whatever tends to take your breath away.

Neuropathy is a disease that affects the peripheral nerve system and destroys motor, sensory and autonomic nerves. It causes pain and loss of sensation in the long run, body weakness and paralysis in the extreme cases. The condition makes the body lose it reflex ability and causes muscles atrophy. Its causes include carpal tunnel syndrome, poliomyelitis, diabetes, leprosy, injury, multiple sclerosis, alcoholism, syphilis and herpes zoster (shingles). The condition could be acquired or genetic.

Neuropathy information is crucial to the treatment and control of the disease. It is important to understand that neuropathy refers to a number of diseases or injuries to the nerve or nerve cells. It is of various kinds and affects as many as 20 million Americans. The condition is also called peripheral neuropathy as it affects nerves outside the central nervous system, which is made up of the brain and spinal cord. Patients suffer from either mono-neuropathy or poly-neuropathy. In mono-neuropathy, there is only one part of the nerve affected and it is easy to find the cause, hence better neuropathy treatment. However, in the case of poly-neuropathy, there are multiple damaged nerves and treatment is difficult as any place could be the source. Peripheral neuropathy causes pain which results from the damaged and dysfunctional nerves.

Though neuropathy is unique to each individual, there are several common neuropathy symptoms that can be observed amongst the patients. The early detection of neuropathic signs enables better management and prevents a lot of damage. Neuropathic symptoms include shocks and burning pain, tingling and numbness of the foot and hands, weak hands and leg joints, feeling of electric shocks and pain while walking, poor balance, lack of rhythm while walking and poor grasping ability. Thinning of the skin is also another common symptom. Most neuropathic cases differ in their progression from an infant stage to a fully blown out condition. In some cases, the disease shows symptoms early but develops slowly. In other instances, there is a plateau phase, where the same signs are observed for a long time without much development of the disease. However, in other cases the progress is faster and one can easily become disabled.

Neuropathy treatment is dependant on many factors. The first of these is the primary cause of the disease. It also depends on the neuropathy signs the patient will be exhibiting at the time of the diagnosis. There are several treatments available but none of them completely cures the condition. Most of the treatments are majorly concerned with controlling the pain. The primary cause of the disease plays a key role in the success of whichever method one uses. By treating the primary cause, the condition will get better by itself. Some of the treatments used include administering pain relievers that are non-steroids,. However, in acute cases, morphine-based pain killers are used. If the condition is caused by lack of vitamins or any dietary deficiency, supplements are administered.

Modern technology allows for electrical stimulation of the dysfunctional nerves. Tricyclic anti-depressants are also used. The patients are also placed under physician supervised exercise. Patients can also use a Lidocaine patch which is normally applied to the painful areas. There are several alternative medicines used including oriental medicine. Oriental remedies use techniques such as acupuncture to relieve the muscles and distribute body energy.

Since there is no cure yet for the peripheral neuropathy condition, it is advisable to prevent it from occurring. This is possible by observing a healthy diet, avoiding alcohol and regular but careful exercise. It is also possible to lead a normal life with neuropathy if one makes use of the neuropathy information available online and from organizations such as the Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy, Neuropathy Association and the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.

Nerves are a wonderful exciting things. Tiny little threads spread to nearly every part of your body. These sensors in the “Somatic Nervous System” feel every sensation: hot, cold, light, pressure, and the slightest touch that can pain or delight you. Nerve pain information is “instant messaged” to your brain. Sometimes you can barely feel the pain because of the nerve “threshold.” That is the point you actually “feel” pain, low thresholds are felt as tickling or tingling. These are nerve pain symptoms you feel with “Peripheral Neuropathy” from sensory nerve damage.

Each nerve has elastic-like coatings called myelin sheaths to protect them. The “Central Nervous System” is control center for the nerves housed inside your skull and spinal cord. Everything else is in the “Peripheral Nervous System.” It is divided into “automatic” functions, keeping your body alive and working and motor nerves that control muscles and movement. Others are monitors and sensors. You have pain because nerve pain signs are warning you something is wrong.

Generally the most severe nerve pain symptoms are in the central nervous system. Pain can go from mild infrequent pain, to sharp stabbing pain, or constant nagging pain. It can be caused by motor neuron disease, cancer, diabetes and autoimmune disease, injury, compression damage or deterioration. Injuries can be from sudden traumatic injury, slight injury becoming worse or repetitive motion injury. Nerve pain treatment for severe spinal injury frequently requires surgery since pain is intolerable and often debilitating. Narcotic pain medicine is the most useful non-surgical remedy for this severe pain. Even with surgical improvement, chronic pain may still linger and require continuing narcotics.

Often interpreting nerve pain signs in the spine can be difficult. Nerve pain symptoms can begin in the spinal cord and radiate to ribs and shoulders, or from hips throughout the legs. When troubled by spinal pain, movements can cause a misaligned body subject to arthritis and additional osteoporosis pain.

Nerve pain generating throughout the body is called “Peripheral Neuropathy.” These nerve pain symptoms are characterized and named for their location and type of pain. Shingles is a painful example of viral nerve pain. Diabetes or autoimmune conditions such as lupus and inflammatory diseases or age may cause deterioration of the myelin sheath causing pain. Nerves can become stressed, stretched like a tendon or muscle, or can be injured: crushed, cut, twisted or pinched and cause pain.

Often multiple nerve pain symptoms indicate damage to two or three different types of nerves. Generally when people begin experiencing numbness, tingling, or that sensation of wearing heavy socks, it is time to find more nerve pain information, and look for other nerve pain signs. Damage can rapidly progress or go slowly. Nerve pain can be anywhere in the body. If deep in your arms or legs, not near joints, nor when flexing or squeezing your muscle, it is most likely nerve pain. Make a record of your pain: you may experience sensitivity, burning, weakness, prickling, twitching, aching, stabbing, even paralysis. You should also share any other unexplained symptoms with your physician. If you have sensory nerve damage, you could have autonomic nerve damage, which doesn’t have as easily identifiable nerve pain signs.

Because peripheral naturopathic pain is difficult to treat, Physicians use wide varieties of nerve pain treatment. Topical local anesthetics such as lidocaine limit skin sensitivity or pain. Botox can treat temporary localized pain. The best choice attacking pain are opiates. People with multiply placed nerve pain symptoms are sometimes treated with anti-depressants and anticonvulsants, with limited results. This treatment is often used as an alternative to prescribing narcotics.

With holistic and alternative medicine in the forefront physicians have begun trying to heal damage rather than treating pain. Certain dietary supplements have demonstrated amazing results in neuropathy treatment. Using Alpha lipoic acid showed reduced stabbing burning pain, along with significant decline in areas effected by neuropathy. Benfotiamine has been effective in diabetic neuropathy treatment. If the your body becomes healthier so are your nerves, and you will have less pain.

Rheumatoid Arthritis is an auto-immune disease that affects the joints. Rheumatoid Arthritis symptoms include joint pain that starts as a minor pain and occurs on both sides of the body and fatigue. Additional Rheumatoid Arthritis symptoms are: fatigue, morning stiffness lasting more than an hour, decreased range of motion in joints and stiff, tender joints when immobile for an hour or more.
There is not a single test that determines a diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis. A diagnosis is made from a body of evidence compiled from sources such as a physical exam, symptoms and the results of diagnostic tests. Rheumatoid Arthritis signs can be indicated by several tests. If Rheumatoid Arthritis is suspected, one or more of the following test may be performed:
•	The Rheumatoid Factor Test measures the amount of rheumatoid factor antibody present. About 80% of RA patients test positive for the anti-body.
•	The Anti-CCP antibody test (Cyclic Citrullinated Peptide Antibody) is a relatively new test used in conjunction with the Rheumatoid Factor test.
•	C-reactive protein is a blood test that measures for a protein in the blood that is usually higher when inflammation or swelling is present.
•	Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate indirectly measures how much inflammation is present.
•	Joint Ultrasound looks at a specific joint for inflammation or damage.
•	Synovial Fluid Analysis- synovial or joint fluid is tested for color and clarity, then examined under a microscope for the presence red and white blood cells or bacteria.

Currently there is no cure, therefore Rheumatoid Arthritis treatment focuses on alleviating pain, reducing inflammation and slowing the progessive damage to the joints. Anti-inflammatory drugs used for Rheumatoid Arthritis treatment include NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) such as ibuprofen or naproxen sodium and prescription corticosteroids such as prednisone.
Disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) are often prescribed for use in conjunction with steroids. Some DMARDs used for Rheumatoid Arthritis treatment include methotrexate, leflunomide, hydroxychloroquine, sulfasalazine and minocycline. DMARDs treat the inflammation and slow the disease progression. These drugs can have serious side effects including liver damage and lung infections. DMARDs can include immunosuppressant drugs such as azathioprine and cyclosporin. These are strong medications that inhibit the body’s immune response.
A new class of drugs called TNF-alpha inhibitors has been effective in Rheumatoid Arthritis treatment. This class of biologic agents was first approved in the United States in 1998 to treat chronic inflammatory diseases. Immunosuppressant drugs target the entire immune system, but the TNF-alpha inhibitors target specific cells. The introduction of biologic agents has had a significant impact on Rheumatoid Arthritis treatment. Patients are at an increased risk of infection while on these drugs, especially if taken with methotrexate or other immunosuppressant medications. Patients are screened for tuberculosis before beginning treatment and should not take any live vaccines while on the biologic agents.
One of the best tools for dealing with a chronic, autoimmune disease is current information. Rheumatoid Arthritis information is available from many reputable sources. The American Autoimmune Related Diseases Association and The Arthritis Foundation are two reliable sources. The American College of Rheumatology and RheumatoidArthritis.com are both good places for Rheumatoid Arthritis information and resources. All of the resources listed are non-profit organizations with the exception of RheumatoidArthritis.com, which is sponsored by the pharmaceutical company, Genentech.
Support plays an important role in dealing with issues related to Rheumatoid Arthritis. Doctors specializing in auto-immune diseases or arthritis may have information about support groups. Support groups can provide current Rheumatoid Arthritis information as well as a personal persepctive on how to handle the challenges of living with RA.

Allergies are the immune system’s hypersensitive response to harmless foreign substances called allergens.

According to the Foundation of Asthma and Allergy of America, about 50 million Americans suffer from allergies. According to researchers, allergies are inherited. Most develop during childhood, but people can suffer from them at any age, even if their parents have no history of having allergies. Smoking, pollution, an infection, and hormones can trigger allergies.

Allergies can be divided into two types: seasonal and perennial. Seasonal allergies are common and occur at certain times during the year, especially from early spring through autumn. The identified allergens includes pollen from trees, grasses, weeds and molds. Perennial allergies occur all year around. Such include food allergies often resulting from nut and dairy consumption, pet allergies from touching a cat or dog or breathing dander, and skin allergies when say in contact with poison ivy, sumac or oak. Other perennial allergens are substances such as perfumes, smoke, air pollution, cosmetics, and certain medicines.

Allergies Symptoms and Signs

A person is identified as allergic through symptoms such as itchy and watery eyes, sneezing, itchy or runny nose, coughing, rashes and hives, and feeling tired or weak.

Allergic rhinitis, or hay fever, is commonly identified when a sufferer has a stuffy nose and watery eyes from allergens such as dust, dander and pollen. Symptoms include itching, swelling, and mucus production due to the release of natural substances by your body like histamine.

Allergic asthma is triggered by allergens such as pollen, pet dander, mold, and dust mites that cause the passages in the lungs to become inflamed and swollen. The symptoms include coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath or rapid breathing, and chest tightness.

Another common allergic condition is called allergic eyes when inflammation occurs on the tissue layers covering the surface of the eyeball and the undersurface of the eyelid. Due to the inflammation, a sufferer from allergic eyes develops redness under the eyelids and of the eye, itchy and watery eyes as well swelling of the membranes.

Allergic eczema is an allergic rash and causes the itching, redness and dryness on the skin. If someone suffers from an allergic shock after eating peanuts or stung by a bee–which can be life threatening–the sufferer may show all symptoms of an allergic reaction such as hives, nasal congestion, swelling of the throat, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and shortness of breath, wheezing, and a drop in blood pressure and go into shock.

Allergies Treatment

The best way to treat allergies is to minimize being exposed to the allergens.

Over-the-counter allergy medications can relieve symptoms. These include antihistamines and decongestants. Antihistamines can relieve allergies such as rhinitis as well as rashes and hives. Also, decongestant pills/tablets or nasal sprays can help to relieve a stuffy nose.

If allergies symptoms persist and the sufferer cannot avoid the allergens, immunotherapy or allergy shots are recommended to control the symptoms. These shots are given to increase the sufferer’s tolerance to the allergens that trigger the symptoms. This treatment will not cure allergies, but only reduces the patient’s sensitivity to allergens.

Conclusion

Prevention is the best solution for allergies symptoms. Although not life threatening, allergies are more than enough to distract you from your routine. Most symptoms will go away after exposure to the allergens has stopped. If your allergies symptoms become serious, you need to call your health care provider in order to get the correct diagnosis and treatment.

Blood Clot Information
A blood clot— or thrombus, to use the technical term— is one of the most common causes of death in the industrialized world. It happens when a clot forms in a healthy blood vessel— normally coagulation should occur only when a person has a wound, to prevent death from blood loss— and does not go away. A stroke may result if a clot forms in a cerebral artery. Thrombi can also travel from one vessel to another, so it is imperative to get medical attention at the first signs or symptoms of the disease, before it becomes potentially life- threatening.

Several pathological factors can result in a thrombus. Patients who have recently suffered a heart attack are at high risk for developing them, as are those who have had a heart transplant, are inactive for long periods of time, or have a genetic clotting deficiency. One study, which appeared on the website of the Australian nonprofit environmental organization Planet Ark on September 21, 2007, suggested that pollutants produced by exhaust from motor vehicles may be responsible for a large portion of strokes and heart attacks. One such culprit has been identified as interleukin- 6, which is secreted by lungs that have become inflamed by toxins: It has been shown to increase the likelihood of the blood clotting. Likewise, diesel fumes, when inhaled, tend to interfere with the blood’s ability to break down thrombi; and mice used in experiments have been shown to bleed less when they have inhaled toxic particles in the air. And IL- 6 is present in higher levels in patients who are in an advanced state of cancer, so doctors are considering developing anti- IL- 6 agents.

Other factors that contribute to thrombi include smoking, birth control pills, pregnancy, and obesity. Genetic conditions that make one more vulnerable include deficiencies of antithrobin 3 and of proteins C and S, and antiphospholipid syndrome, a coagulation disorder that is also responsible for many cases of miscarriage and preeclampsia.

Blood clot symptoms normally do not occur. But an abnormal clot, which can be far more deadly, can produce such symptoms as isolated pain or cold just beneath the locus of the clot, tenderness of the skin, and phlebitis, or inflammation of a vein. Other symptoms depend on where the clot occurs: If a retinal artery is blocked, an eye may become blind or partially blind, while a clot in a cerebral artery may cause dizziness and fainting.

Blood clot signs may include streaking around the affected area, sudden cough, heightened heart or breathing rate, and coughing up blood. The calves may become swollen and tender.

Blood clot treatment should always be sought from a professional at a hospital— Dr. Douglas Schuerer has stated that no home treatment for thrombi has been proven to be safe. Doctors prescribe anticoagulant medications in various combinations; such drugs include heparin, which prevents clots from expanding and forming new ones, and warfarin, which is taken orally. Whatever medicine the patient is taking, he must be carefully monitored and continue to see his physician regularly.

In a small minority— less than one out of twenty— of all blood clotting cases, surgery is necessary. Many of these are cases of abnormally large thrombi in the legs. The surgical procedure, called a venous thrombectomy, involves making an incision and removing the thrombus with a catheter. The patient is also injected with heparin.

Acid Reflux Symptoms

At one time or another we have all experienced that uncomfortable burning sensation fallowed by a bad taste that resembles the last meal eaten; known as heartburn or acid reflux. Non-heart related chest pains and difficulty swallowing are also acid reflux symptoms.

Acid Reflux Signs and Causes

Acid reflux is when the stomach liquids reflux up into the throat which if untreated can cause long term damage to the tissue of the throat. When reflux occurs stomach liquids; acid, pepsin’s, (pepsin enzymes break down proteins in the stomach aiding in digestion) and bile (which comes from the small intestines called the duodenum) are the culprits for the irritation and burning with acid being the longer lasting of the three.

When acid reflux signs occur it is due to the LES muscle (lower esophageal sphincter) found between the esophagus and the stomach which opens when food pass through and flows into the stomach. Once the food has passes through, the LES muscle reseals. When the LES muscle reopens without food passing through is when acid reflux symptoms occur and stomach acid flows backwards causing acid reflux or better known as heartburn.

Food is not the only factor that causes acid reflux symptoms to increase. An individuals lifestyle has been proven to be a contributing factor such as smoking, stress, clothing that is tight around the abdomen, as well as eating large portions at meal times (overeating) and those that are overweight.

Foods that trigger Acid Reflux symptoms

Spicy foods are often a factor to acid reflux causing burning of the esophagus (throat).

Fatty foods such as burgers and fries often cause the LES muscle to become lazy and stay open allowing acid reflux to occur.

Acidic foods such as onions, tomatoes, oranges, and grapefruit often trigger acid reflux.

Alcohol beverages increases stomach acid production and irritate the lining of the stomach and throat, alcohol beverages mixed with fruit juice increase acid reflux symptoms.

Caffeine beverages and foods such as hot chocolate, chocolate candies and bars, teas (hot and cold) as well as coffee drinks (hot and cold) have acidic properties to them and often contribute to acid reflux symptoms.

Carbonated beverages have also been known to cause acid reflux symptoms.

Acid Reflux Treatment

There are many things people with acid reflux can do to treat acid reflux symptoms and to prevent a re-occurrence.

Acid reflux treatments start with the basics; diet is very important by keeping track of what foods cause acid reflux and avoiding those foods and beverages whenever possible. Eating smaller portions at meal time will help relieve the acid reflux that often occurs when consuming large meals. Being more active and exercising will not only help shed those extra pounds and relieving acid reflux symptoms but exercise will also help release stress which is also a factor involved with acid reflux.

Taking antacids before meals have been proven to be effective and come in many varieties. If over the counter chewable tablets or capsules aren’t enough talk to your physician about a prescription. A physician can prescribe a PPI (proton pump inhibitors) or H2 Blockers which help reduce the production of stomach acids, and aid in healing acid reflux damage. To reduce acid reflux symptoms at bed time by not eating at least 3 hours before going to bed, and by keeping your head raised, this keeps the stomach acids from backing up causing acid reflux.

As with any symptoms that are constant consult your physician.

Shingles is part of the chicken pox family. It starts with a few bumps that look like small pimples and progresses into a rash. At first it is just uncomfortable, but it can turn into an extremely painful situation for the person who has this uncomfortable disease.

Shingles is also part of the herpes family but most people do not realize that until they look for shingles information. They are also surprised to find out that they can pass the chicken pox virus to people who have not had this childhood disease. Everyone that has had chicken pox is at risk and it usually tends to strike people over the age of sixty. Stress and a weakened immune system will also help trigger an attack. Younger people can also have this dreaded disease and should not rule it out if they see a small red rash somewhere on their body. Shingles signs are not always easy to recognize because they can be confused with heat rash or bug bites. The pain is very intense and cannot be confused with anything else. The doctor will be able to look at the red rash and realize they are shingles symptoms.

It is important to seek medical care as soon as you suspect that you have shingles because there is help available. It needs to be given during the first seventy two hours though to be effective. Antiviral is the drug of choice for this problem and the results are very good. The doctor will probably prescribe a pain medication that should be taken even if the areas covered with shingles have not started to hurt. Once the pain starts, it can be hard to control. Anyone could possible be preganet should not take either medication. Check with your Doctor if you think this is a possibility.

Most people buy an over the counter ant itch medication to put on the areas of the skin that have the rash. Bathing is encouraged and will often help with the pain. Never use powder on the rash area as it will only cause more irritation. Cool dressings on the area will also bring some releif. Complications are usually few and the irritation of the disease is the biggest problem. Sometimes though, one of the blisters will get infected. It is called cellulites. A good health care provider will give antibiotics to take care of the infections. It is important to finish the complete dose of the medication so it clears up completely.

Chicken pox and shingles treatment are very similar. Both need time to heal and usually clear up on their own if they are properly taken care of. They need time to run their course. Both can now be prevented with a vaccine. Anyone over the age of 60 should consider the vaccine. Of course children are now being given a vaccine for chicken pox at a very young age. There is no reason for anyone to have to go through shingles or chicken pox because they can be prevented. Hopefully in years to come, more and more people will be free of these symptoms and not have to endure the painful rash and pimples. Thanks to modern medicine it is possible to control this disease and there is no reason for anyone to suffer unecessarily.

Erectile Dysfunction is a disorder of a sexual nature in which a man has difficulty maintaining his erection. Sometimes the erection is achieved normally but is lost within a few minutes. Other times the male can not obtain an erection at all. It is a common occurrence in men and causes of the disorder vary. By the age of 45 most men have experienced Erectile Dysfunction at one time during their lives or another. It effects young men as well as old and should not be labeled as an old man’s disease. Erectile Dysfunction is also known as impotence, male impotence, or simply ED.

The physical erectile dysfunction symptoms are very easy to spot and diagnose. The sufferer will have a difficult time achieving an erection and may not have one at all no matter how excited he is. If an erection is achieved it may not last long enough to make it through an entire sexual encounter. Sometimes the erection may last but will not be hard enough for the man to perform. This is due to the lack of blood flowing to the penis. If blood flow to the penis is not adequate, it can not expand enough to maintain its hardness. Other Erectile Dysfunction signs are anxiety, depression, mood swings, and lack of interest in participating in sexual activities.

There are several different causes one erectile dysfunction. One is psychological. Stress from the job, a recent breakup of a relationship, loss of job, a death in the family, or exposure to abuse could all initiate a bout of erectile dysfunction. Since sexual performance is closely linked to mental and emotional health the erectile dysfunction may stay until those issues get resolved.

Some medications also cause erectile dysfunction. Any substance that interferes with blood flow, brain operations, or heart rate could be the culprit in bringing this disorder. Examples of medications that could cause erectile dysfunction are: medicines used to treat prostate cancer, chemotherapy drugs, muscle relaxers, H2-receptor antagonists, Antiarrythmics, Parkinson’s disease medications, Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, antihistamines, anti-anxiety drugs, depression medications, and blood pressure medicines.

Frequent use of alcohol and controlled dangerous substances may also cause erectile dysfunction. The reason that these drugs lead to erectile dysfunction is because they effect the central nervous system. Examples of controlled dangerous substance are: cocaine, opiates, methadone, marijuana, barbituates, and amphetamines. Nicotine over usage may also lead to erectile dysfunction.

Medical conditions such as prostate cancer, high blood pressure, heart disease, and spinal cord injury can be the reason for a person’s erectile dysfunction. In the case of prostate cancer the whole reproductive system is experiencing difficulty so it is common for erectile dysfunction to develop. With a spinal cord injury the dysfunction lies within the nerve that may be severely damaged to the point of not responding to signals from the brain.

Treatment for erectile dysfunction depends on the cause of the specific case. A doctor must physically examine a patient and speak with him in order to come up with a proper treatment plan. For example, most cases can be cured with temporary use of the drug Viagra. Viagra is an oral tablet that increases the blood flow to the penis. Viagra works in a large number of erectile dysfunction patients. However, it is not acceptable treatment for someone who has heart disease or any issues with the arteries.

Vacuum therapy is another way treating ED. It involves using a penal vacuum that draws blood into the penis by applying negative pressure. It is also referred to as a penis pump. Injection therapy and surgery are other great alternatives.

Osteoporosis is a condition where the bones are so porous they cannot hold minerals or calcium. In the early years of a human life, there will not be any symptoms until much later on when a bone fracture occurs. Osteoporosis Symptoms are weak bones that fracture easily particularly at the wrists and the hip.
Other symptoms to note are spinal compression fractures resulting from weak bones cracking under pressure from the weight of the body. The widow’s hump is one of the first Osteoporosis Signs and should prompt a visit to the doctor for further investigation. Additionally, regular spinal fractures will cause chronic lower back pain.
As the bones weaken, hip fractures will often result from falls. Slow healing fractures indicate another sign of osteoporosis. Women who are smokers and women who have entered menopause prior to age 45 will probably develop osteoporosis. Also women who have had low calcium levels most of their adult life, who are physically inactive and are of American or European descent are more prone to developing osteoporosis.
Osteoporosis is a debilitating disease. It will radically affect the mobility of the afflicted individual since often after a fall, the majority of victims spend the rest of their days wheel chair bound. Data shows that within the first year of a hip fracture 23% of those afflicted in Canada alone will die. With reduced exercise, they will also be more prone to attacks of pneumonia and other potentially fatal illnesses.
The internet supplies a great deal of Osteoporosis Information. Data shows that one out of two women of Caucasian descent will experience a fractured bone caused by osteoporosis. These statistics alone should be a wake-up call for women to not put off getting bone density tests and to learn what the family history is.
Both men and women diagnosed with osteoporosis must make the same lifestyle changes. Weight lifting has proven to be a recommended physical activity to build up muscle strength. This will alleviate the pressure put on the bones. Eating foods rich in vitamin D and calcium will also help to improve the physical health of the patient. Men should be taking 1200 mgs of calcium and 800 IUs of vitamin D daily.
There is also an ample selection of over the counter calcium supplements that serve as a Osteoporosis Treatment. Drugs with the recommended bisphosphonates help to increase new bone build up. The best strategy is to start on a program of healthy eating and living well before the fractures make themselves known. But it is never too late to start on a bone building program to stave away any risk of fractures.
Healthy individuals will start losing bone mass in their 30s. For this reason it is important to study Osteoporosis Information and to adjust one’s lifestyle to decrease the likelihood of contracting osteoporosis.
Physical activity is important in the building of new bones, building muscle strength, improving posture and helping develop a well balanced physicality. Young people in particular should be focused on building a peak bone mass before their thirties when bone density starts to thin. Building physical fitness in one’s youth is an investment for a better lifestyle in one’s mid and senior years.
Osteoporosis Information is readily available. It can be a life saver to many people if they plan ahead for the best life has to offer them.

Depression strike millions of Americans each year. Depression can be a debilitating disease if not treated properly. Depression is feeling sad, blue, down in the dumps or sometimes suicidal. Every person goes through periods of feeling sad, but this is not the true meaning of depression. Clinical depression is when the mood interferes with everyday life and last for 2 weeks or longer. Depression can alter the way a person views life and those around them. To fully understand depression, let’s review some know causes.

Depression is caused by a chemical change in a persons brain. It can be caused by stress in a person life, or a combination of the to. Depression tends to run in families. Depression can strike at any age. There are several things that can play a role in depression. These include drug abuse, alcohol abuse, certain medical conditions, stressful life events, sleeping problems, job loss, death, social isolation. and divorce. When dealing with depression there are some symptoms that one can watch for. Let’s discuss those now.

Symptoms of depression can vary from person to person. The most common symptoms of depression include: trouble concentrating, difficulty in making decisions, fatigue, decreased energy, feelings of worthlessness, feeling of guilt, insomnia, excessive sleeping, restlessness, irritability, loss of interest in hobbies, loss of appetite, over eating, headaches, body pains, digestive problems, sadness, anxiousness, empty feeling and thoughts of suicide or suicide attempts. When a person contemplates suicide with depression, they may show warning signs. These warning signs include: switching from being sad to happy very quickly, talking or thinking about death, depression that gets worse, having death wishes, losing interest in things, making comments about being hopeless, putting affairs in order, making a will, talking about suicide and calling friends or love ones. If a person shows these signs, get help right away.

It is important to remember that there are different types of depression. Major depressive disorder is the symptoms of depression that interfere with a persons life. This can prevent a person from living a normal life. While an episode can happen only once in a persons life, it does tend to reoccur. Chronic depression is a depression episode that lasts two years or longer. This type of depression does not disable a person. This type of depression is less severe than major depression. Atypical depression has a few common symptoms. These include fatigue, overeating, oversleeping, sensitivity to rejection and moods that can improve quickly. Seasonal depression is a type of depression that occurs the same time each year. The most common time frame for seasonal depression is during the winter months. If a patient suffers from psychotic depression, they have a break from reality. This can be the most serious form of depression. The patient can experience delusions or hallucinations. Postpartum depression is depression that occurs after the birth of a child. The depressive episode will usually begin within a month of giving birth.

No matter the type of depression, treatment is readily available. Antidepressant drugs are usually the first line of treatment. There are many types available and it may take trial and error to find the right match. Psychotherapy is another great treatment for depression. This allows the person to talk through anything that may have triggered the depression. If none of these treatments work, a patient can have electroconclusive therapy. This treatment is reserved for severe depression episodes. The treatment works by sending electrical impulses to the brain. Depression is a serious illness and should be looked at as such.

ADHD information is available through a variety of resources. Schools, doctors, and local behavioral agencies can help anyone to learn more about ADHD. It has been estimated that up to 10 percent of children are diagnosed as having Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Some statistics also report that boys may be three to four times more likely to be diagnosed with ADHD than their female counterparts. Almost every child gets restless at some times and will demonstrate many of the symptoms, but children that truly have ADHD will usually have these excitable characteristics for extended periods of time. Children with ADHD usually also demonstrate these characteristics in other settings that do not typically affect children without ADHD.

There are a multitude of ADHD symptoms that parents, teachers, and caregivers need to be watching for, especially in younger children. Most of the symptoms will really become noticeable once the child is in school. Some of these symptoms are an inability to pay attention to details or making careless errors when the child knows the information, trouble staying on task for extended periods of time, an inability to follow directions, disorganization, being easily distracted, and avoiding things that require a thought process. These are usually the inattentive signs of ADHD, which basically means that the child cannot pay attention. The hyperactive part of ADHD includes some of the following symptoms: an inability to sit still, not being able to play quietly, continuous talking, trouble waiting in lines, and extraneous running. It is also possible that a child may exhibit both types of this disorder and then the ADHD diagnosis will really stand out.

The ADHD signs can be noticeable at a very early age. It is important to point out that just because a child is demonstrating some of the aforementioned behaviors does not mean that the child has ADHD. The symptoms are in place because they are typical behaviors of children and people that have been diagnosed with ADHD. In order to really make the determination of ADHD in a child, a mental health consultant should be visited. It is possible that some of the signs of ADHD could be a result of another type of ailment. A child may mask another issue with signs of ADHD so be proactive before making any self-diagnosis with your child. If you feel that your child has the signs of ADHD get to the doctor as soon as possible. The sooner the disorder is diagnosed; the better off you and your child will be.

ADHD treatment options vary between parents and doctors. It will always be the parent’s final decision about the treatment options for a child with ADHD. It is important to note that not all medicine will work for every child and not every child will react the same way to certain medicines that are designed to help with the symptoms of ADHD. The choice of whether or not to prescribe ADHD medicine should be a collaborative decision between the parents and the mental health worker. If the child is in school, the child’s teacher may also become a valuable contributor to the final decision. The best treatment for ADHD without medicine is to make sure that you understand that the child is likely not misbehaving purposely, but that the child’s brain is not letting him or her behave appropriately. You really need to take the time to find your child’s strengths and weaknesses. Once you know these two concepts about your child, you will be able to continue fostering their strengths and gradually improve their weaknesses.

Even though health experts are constantly sharing diabetes information, there are still many people who do not understand this condition. Diabetes is an illness that is characterized by prolonged periods of high blood sugar. There are three types: type 1, type 2 and gestational. Type 1 diabetes affects anywhere from 5-10% of the diabetics and it occurs when the body cannot produce insulin. Type 2 diabetes is the most common, affecting about 90-95% of diabetics.

It occurs when the body can produce insulin, but the cells cannot respond to it. Gestational diabetes is a condition that causes high blood sugar during pregnancy. It usually resolves itself when the mother delivers her baby, but it also puts her at an increased risk for developing type 2 diabetes later in life. Approximately 8% of mothers will suffer from gestational diabetes during pregnancy.

Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosis in young people under the age of 15. Doctors believe that it is linked to a genetic defect, so there is nothing that can be done to prevent it. Type 2 diabetes usually develops in people who are over the age of 40, but people are being diagnosed with it at younger ages. This condition is strongly correlated with being overweight. In fact, health researchers have found that over 80% of people with type 2 diabetes are overweight.

Pregnancy changes everything about a woman’s body and that includes the way sugar is processed. The hormonal fluctuations that occur due to the growing baby can make it harder for the cells to response to insulin. Doctors and midwives check all women for gestational diabetes during the 24th or 28th week of pregnancy.

Many people ignore the diabetes symptoms because they can seem very mild at first. Some of the diabetes signs that can occur in a type 1 diabetic include: weight loss, excessive thirst, increased appetite and nausea. Fatigue, increased appetite and increased thirst are likely to occur in type 2 diabetics. Many women with gestational diabetes do not have any symptoms, but they may experience increased thirst.

Much focus has been placed on prevention and diabetes treatment. Since Type 1 diabetes is caused by a genetic disorder, it is hard to prevent. Type 2 diabetes can be prevented by exercising and maintaining a healthy body weight. Mothers who eat well-balanced diets, exercise and see their doctor or midwife regularly are less likely to develop gestational diabetes.

Diabetes can lead to a-lot of complications, but fortunately people who take care of themselves can lead long and healthy lives. Type 1 diabetics have to take insulin because their bodies cannot produce it. Type 2 diabetics may or may not have take insulin, but they usually have to take medication to control their blood sugar.

Both type 1 and 2 diabetics need to make sure that they watch their intake of sugar and eat as much fresh food as possible. Studies have also shown that exercise helps improve insulin sensitivity in diabetics, but it is wise to consult with a doctor before beginning an exercise program. Most women with gestational diabetes can control it with diet, exercise and checking in with their doctor on a regular basis. All diabetic can benefit from monitoring their blood sugar on a regular basis.

Diabetes has been studied for many years, but it still is hard to fully understand. The good news is that this condition can be treated and prevented.

Knee pain can be an extremely uncomfortable thing for individuals to experience; and, in some cases if not properly treated, can lead to serious complications, and may eventually require surgery.

Here is some common knee pain information, and why it should be taken care of at the onset of when the pain begins. The knee has three compartments: medial, lateral, and patella-femoral section. There are many causes of knee pain, which can affect each or just one of the three sections; some of the causes of pain are: arthritis, injury, degeneration, infection, and in rare cases bone tumors.

If you experience knee pain, you should get it checked by a doctor immediately, even if it is a minor discomfort, it can lead to something much more drastic. Whether it is from a tweak in a joint from running at the gym, or a fall you have taken, getting the pain under control, and making sure it doesn’t get worst is the first priority, and the only way to ensure further damage won’t occur.

Knee pain symptoms

There are many knee pain symptoms which individuals can experience, ranging from minor pain, to unbearable pains when they walk (or in some cases when they are doing nothing at all). The symptoms which will be experienced will depend on the severity of the injury, sprain, or other impairment to you knee joints.

Symptoms will also vary depending on which compartment is injured. The closer to bone and tissue the damage is, the more severe the pain; however, if it is a minor sprain you may only experience minor discomfort when you are doing heavy lifting or working out. No matter how minimal the symptoms of pain are, you must take proper precautions of them getting worse. Make sure to follow your doctor’s instructions, and take any prescribed medications.

Knee pain signs

At the early onset of knee pain, you will experience knee pain signs which will indicate that you must take care of the problem. The more severe the pain, the more likely something is severely wrong. If you are experiencing minor discomfort in your joints, you might not worry about it, and try taking an aspirin to alleviate the pain. However, if it doesn’t improve, and in fact gets worse, you must see a doctor immediately.

Knee pain treatment

There are several knee pain treatment options, in the event that it is something more serious than a minor sprain. Depending on what ligaments, or what compartment of the knee was injured, surgery might be required. Surgery of a ligament can include: grafting procedures, synthetic graft repair, suturing, and in the harshest of cases, a total knee replacement.

You must initially get x-rays taken to determine the severity of the damage, and what treatment options you and your doctor decide are best for your situation. An x-ray will reveal a meniscus tear, but can also be used to exclude other problems in the bone and tissue area. Other methods of finding problems are arthroscopy and MRI studies to diagnose knee ailments. Once the problem is found, a treatment plan, and if necessary surgical appointment should be discussed by you and your doctor.

Knee pain can be an indication of something as small as a pulled muscle in the surrounding area, or something as severe as bond and tissue damage. Making sure to take care of the problem at the onset, will ensure the best treatment options, will minimize the pain and discomfort you experience, and will ensure that you won’t experience long term problems which can last for the rest of your life.

Bipolar is also known as manic depression with mood swings that range from highs to lows. Bipolar symptoms include high energy and happy in appearance, sadness, and hopelessness. Occurrence of the moods swings are different for everyone, some experience mood swings occasionally, while others experience several in a single day. Severe cases experience both moods at the same time.

Bipolar treatments plans for bipolar symptoms use medication, profession counseling and psychotherapy. Bipolar treatments become part of your daily life in order to maintain and control the mood swings. Bipolar symptoms vary from person to person, bipolar treatments for the disorder are broken down into several categories depending on the severity.

The first category of bipolar signs causes great difficulty in your daily activities, such as your job, schools or interactions with family. The next category deals with the mood swings, but is more of an irritation level and allows you to continue your activities. Terms used to describe these levels are manic the term that characterizes bipolar, hypomania is a mild mania and cyclothymia causes the hypomania effect and depression. Understanding and recognizing bipolar signs take time because the bipolar symptoms can occur alone or in a combination known as an episode, causing the depression mood to last longer and become disruptive. Depression seems to be the more prevalent bipolar signs, while others experience manic bipolar symptoms.

Bipolar Signs

Bipolar signs involve depression, lack of confidence or self-esteem, behaviors such as aggression or irritable, poor judgment. Certain activities such as spending sprees, decreased amount of sleep, carelessness with drugs and being absence from work or school. Mental functions can be affected from poor performance at work, school work, even delusions, or appetite changes, fatigue and anxiety.

The most dangerous of bipolar signs are suicide attempts, which may be connected to the seasonal changes around the holiday for many who are feeling depressed alone or abandoned. Seasonal mood changes with some being so severe that psychosis or delusions or hallucinations occur.

Mood swings and bipolar symptoms exist in children as well and signs can be the explosive tempers, aggression and with a tendency towards violence. Mood swings can happen within hours of each other switching from happiness to outbursts of anger. Bipolar signs like a change in sleeping habits affect children just as it happens in adults and in most cases this is a common indicator for children.

Bipolar individuals have physical changes in their brains and the severity of those changes help to determine the level and treatment for the disorder. Neurotransmitters are the communicators from cell to cell in our bodies and when they are out of balance bipolar responses are present. Hormones can also cause bipolar effects and genic traits we inherit from our parents can cause these bipolar conditions.

Bipolar Treatments

It’s never too early to see a doctor because bipolar disorders do not get better on its own. Bipolar examinations and treatments from a professional with experience will help to determine the level of bipolar and proper medications to control the condition.

In the United States of America, heart disease has been deemed to be the number one cause of death. The causes of heart disease can be numerous, but one of the major precursors to heart disease is elevated triglycerides. Let’s start off by giving you an overview that discusses some actual triglycerides information and what it really is. Triglycerides are a certain kind of fat that you consume that can be located in your body’s blood. The reason you need it is due to the fact that it is utilized by your body for energy. So you do require it in your system to ensure good health, but it is the amount that you have which will contribute to heart disease. Unfortunately, there are no triglycerides signs that will inform you that the levels are high, along with the same reason that there will be no triglycerides symptoms either. Due to the fact that high triglycerides are most commonly caused by other issues you may be having, you might be able to know without checking with lab work that you are most likely suffering from elevated levels. Be advised that these assumptions can’t take the place of a doctor and blood work. Obesity and hypothyroidism may be a contributor with the simple fact that you are consuming more calories than you are actually using. Another issue that can raise your levels is the consumption of alcohol in excess along with kidney disease. With your levels increasing, there has been a direct link with atherosclerosis, which is deposits and hardening within the arteries. Some other causes of this condition can include types of medications that you use. This can range from steroids, beta-blockers, birth control pills, and estrogen. There also have been some cases where it was found that it was genetics and therefore a hereditary condition. Your levels can and should be checked regularly by your doctor to monitor and intervene when it is necessary. If it is discovered that your levels are becoming an issue, you should start to change your diet and any type of contributing lifestyle changes that require it. Your weight, as discussed that obesity was of a major concern, should be within normal limits to your height. A regular routine of exercising will need to be incorporated to ensure that your weight is more appropriate to your height and sex. Once exercise is discussed, obviously dieting is usually used in the same breath. You will have to limit and remove excess sugars and fats from what you consume. The other contributor that was mentioned, alcohol, will have to be limited considerably if not removed for the time being for your levels to drop to a more reasonable level. These types of activities and changes in your life should be sufficient enough to aide your levels to be lowered to a good number. Unfortunately, that is not always the case and there will be the requirement of excess assistance from pharmaceuticals. Triglycerides treatments have resulted in medication to aide in lowering you levels significantly if the other activities are not working appropriately. Usually this is not the case of the other methods not working; just the patient is not actually completing them. Regardless, the use of medicine has significantly aided patients in their ability to lower their levels to a safe and respectable number. Sometimes, a patient had completely changed their life style in combination with the medicine, and then discharges the use of the medicine. This means that once you are on the medicine, does not necessarily require you to use it for the rest of your life.

Living with COPD

You have probably seen the commercial for this disease many times on television, and usually with a different actor or actress talking about how a certain medication can help you live the condition called cardio Obstructive Pulmonary Disease or simply COPD, but there is more to the story that a commercial can never explain.

What is COPD?

In case you are not aware of this, COPD is a form of Asthma, and is its worst form of the condition. There is a lot of COPD Information available online, but depending on the source the information, it may not explain everything that you should be aware of about the condition, so a brief explanation about COPD is in order.

COPD or Cardio Pulmonary Obstructive Disease is a disease that affects the lungs and usually takes on one of two forms including:

Chronic Bronchitis-The person suffering from this form of COPD usually has a chronic cough associated with a mucous discharge which can range in color from clear to a mildly green color.

Emphysema-The person who has this type of COPD may over time experience the breakdown of the lung tissue.

In most cases, someone suffering with COPD will exhibit a combination of both types of the condition.

The symptoms

A few COPD Symptoms include the following:

Shortness of breath

Cough with mucus

Wheezing

Fatigue

Numerous respiratory infections

Sometimes these symptoms do not develop right away, but rather develop over a period of years. It is not uncommon for a person living with COPD to go for years with just one or two symptoms, and as they get older other symptoms will begin to present themselves. Usually the symptoms of shortness of breath and fatigue appear as the condition begins to worsen as the person with the disease gets older.

The signs of the disease

Unfortunately, many COPD Signs are things that a loved one may already be experiencing, including some of the symptoms mentioned above, but there is another sign that is really a telling sign of the disease and that is when the person is having an asthma attack and cannot catch their breath even with the use of their rescue inhaler. When this begins occurring then the person should see their cardio pulmonologist to have a few tests done to see if they have developed COPD.

The test that your specialist will use is a fairly simple one called a spirometry, and it is a simple lung function test that can determine fairly quickly if you have COPD or not. The test involves you blowing into a tube to test your lung function.

You are asked to take a deep breath, and then blow into the tube, expelling your lungs of air. You do this in a quick and forceful motion, and you do not continue to blow afterward. You will be asked in most cases to do this three times to get a best average and then see where your results fall within prescribed ranges.

Types of treatment

The type of COPD Treatment will depend on your overall health and condition, but it should be emphasized that there is no cure for COPD, but there are treatments to help a person diagnosed with the disease live with it.

Treatments for COPD include the use of an inhaler with a prescribed steroid medication such as albuterol. This is usually in the form of a small puffer that can be carried with the patient and used as necessary and for emergencies.

The specialist will also prescribe a medication such as Advair or Spiriva. Both of these medications include bronchodilators to help open the passageways of the lungs themselves, and they are usually taken twice a day at twelve hour intervals.

In some extreme cases where the disease has progressed to an extreme stage, the person may need to have a portable oxygen device with them to assist in breathing and may also require the use of a nebulizer and an albuterol steroid in a liquid form to use with the unit.

There are thousands of people diagnosed with COPD each year, but with proper treatment and follow-ups with your specialist, being diagnosed with COPD is not the end of your life, just a life style adjustment.

Research has shown that today, in the United States alone, stroke ranked third as the leading cause of death and the leading cause of disability in adults. Stroke takes a back seat only to cardiovascular disease and cancer, which cause more deaths annually. That statistic, in and of itself provides enough motivation for people to have current and accurate stroke information. There is a wealth of stroke information, stroke symptoms, stroke signs, and stroke treatment through medical providers as well as the internet. Each year about 700,000 thousand people become the victim of stroke, out of which 160,000 thousand become fatalities. For those over the age of 55, the risk of stroke is better than one in six.

By recognizing and changing destructive habits, people can reduce the chances of having a stroke. High risk individuals may prevent a major stroke through the use of drugs such as aspirin and a carotid endarterectomy surgical procedure. In the event of a stroke, early treatment may minimize brain damage and potential disability.

More than half of stroke survivors regain functional independence. For those who suffer a stroke, immediate medical assistance is required, just as in any life threatening medical event. However, for stroke victims, time is a critical factor. Delays in treatment will result in greater brain damage and increase the possibility for disability.

The brain is a comparatively small percentage of the body’s over-all weight but uses 25 percent of the bodies’ oxygen and other nutrients. The brain cannot store nutrients like muscles can, thus requires a steady flow of blood to function properly. Stroke occurs when the blood flow supply is less than optimal. Within less than four minutes of being deprived of the oxygen and nutrients supplied by blood, brain cells begin to die.

There are two types of stroke:

Ischemic, which causes about 80 percent of all strokes, is caused by a buildup of cholesterol containing fatty deposits called plaques. The growth of plaques are like sand paper to the inside of arteries. The resultant irregular surface causes blood flow to become turbulent when passing buildups which can develop a clot. A clot can break free which can then block the flow of blood.

Hemorrhagic strokes occur when a blood vessel in the brain either leaks or becomes ruptured. Blood from the hemorrhage encroaches into the surrounding brain tissue causing damage to that tissue. Other brain cells are damaged due to the lack of blood they receive. High blood pressure is the most common cause of hemorrhagic stroke.

If any of the following stroke signs are present, medical help should be summoned immediately:

• Weakness or numbness in the face, arm or leg on one side of the body

• Sudden dimness, blurring or loss of vision

• Loss of speech, or trouble speaking or understanding speech

• Sudden, severe headache, with no apparent cause

• Unexplained dizziness or a sudden fall

Additional stroke information to be aware of are risk factors, which include:

• Family history of stroke to parents or siblings

• An increase in age increases the chance of stroke

• Men have a higher risk of stroke than women

• Race – blacks are more likely to have a stroke due to greater risk of high blood pressure and diabetes

There is a wealth of stroke information, stroke symptom, stroke signs, and stroke treatment suggestions through medical providers as well as the internet. The information is as simple as a click away and it behooves everyone to have knowledge of stroke information, its signs and treatment.

LDL Cholesterol stands for Low-density lipoprotein. These particles are also referred to as bad cholesterol. LDL Cholesterol information states that LDL particles have the ability to carry cholesterol into the walls of the arteries. LDL Cholesterol Symptoms are manifested by the start of plaque buildup. As the levels of plaque rise, atherosclerosis will start to develop. This is as chronic disease and occurs when the plaque accumulates in layers in the inner lining of the arteries. . More commonly referred to as “hardening of the arteries” the end result is the loss of elasticity in the smaller arteries.

Atherosclerosis can often remain undetected for decades while the build-up of plaque continues. Eventually the blood will not be reaching the body tissues downstream properly. The tissues will not be receiving the nourishment that the blood brings and will eventually die. Heart attacks, strokes and blood clots can develop, some apparent and some silent so doctors have difficulty identifying the medical situation.

Bypass surgery is also implemented to help create new channels for the blood to reach the necessary areas of the body.

Vitamin C is one proven LDL Cholesterol Treatment. Well known medical institutions such as the Mayo Clinic recommend that by eating foods with soluble fiber such as oatmeal, apples, and kidney beans the absorption of LDL cholesterol into the bloodstream will be reduced. Five to ten grams daily is recommended.

Eating fish and Omega-3 fatty acids helps to reduce blood pressure and lowers the risk of developing blood clots. Non-farmed fish such as salmon, lake trout, herring, sardines and mackerel consumed on a regular basis are an excellent prevention strategy. The fish should be grilled and not fried to keep down the additional ingestion of unhealthy fats.

Eating a handful of salt and sugar free nuts daily is a simple strategy for reducing bad cholesterol. Walnuts in particular are rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids but should be eaten in moderation.

Since LDL Cholesterol signs are so difficult to detect this fact alone should provide people with the incentive to monitor their diet and insist on eating healthy foods that will not promote the buildup of plaque in the arteries.

Atherosclerosis starts early in life, around early adolescence and begins to form in the major arteries. According to research in the US IN 2004 47% of women and 65% of men the first symptom of cardiovascular disease is a heart attack, often resulting in death within the hour of onset.

There is much information available to learn more about what can be done to learn more about LDL Cholesterol Treatment. Lifestyle changes are highly recommended. Reducing one’s weight especially by exercising regularly such a talking daily walks is a pleasant and effective activity against plaque buildup.

Eliminating trans fats and eating healthier fats such as monounsaturated fats found in olive oil should be included in the overall life style changing strategy. Limiting daily healthy cholesterol intake to 300 milligrams is recommended. Getting regular medical check- ups to monitor for any LDL Cholesterol Symptoms should be a part of the life style changing routines.

If the proper measures are taken to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease affecting the one’s overall lifestyle, the cost of medical care in many countries will have been reduced. Not only will people be healthier and happier, the medical systems will also be less stressed.

It is encouraging to note that there does seem to be a decline in the number of women being diagnosed with this disease. This is, mostly, due to early screening and early detection.

For the best outcome, cervical cancer symptoms should be caught in the early stages. Usually, there are not any noticeable symptoms or signs right away. As the cancer grows symptoms, begin to develop such as abnormal bleeding from the vagina after sexual intercourse, bleeding after the use of a diaphragm, bleeding between menstrual cycles or bleeding after menopause.

Other symptoms or cervical cancer signs include pain in the pelvic area which occurs during sexual intercourse, a discharge from the vagina that is bloody and/or watery or has a strong smell. Pain during sex is another sign as well as any changes in the menstrual cycle such as longer or heavier periods or pain in the pelvic region. Bleeding after a pelvic exam is another sign to watch for.

There are no known causes for why women develop cancer of the cervix but lifestyle, environment and genetics seems to be factors. Women who have sexually transmitted disease such as HIV/AIDS, gonorrhea, syphilis or Chlamydia are at a high risk. Other risk factors to consider include engaging in sex before the age of 18, having a large number of sexual partners, weak immune system, smoking cigarettes and women who have had more five or more children are at risk for developing cervical cancer.

It is very important for women to get regular screenings to check for cervical cancer because it is best treated if found and in the early stages. Screening should be conducted by the age of 21. Women who are age 30 or older are most at risk, but all women are at risk and should take precautions and get regular screenings.

One of the tests conducted during a screening is a Pap smear which can detect any changes or cancerous cells in the cervix. If cancerous cells are found early they can be removed which will eliminate cervical cancer. Pelvic exams also conducted to determine if cancerous cells have formed and if there are any changes in the cervix.

Cervical cancer treatment varies and depends on what stage the cancer is in. Cervical cancer has four stages. Stage I is when cancer is detected but has not spread. It is the most treatable. Stage II is when cancer has spread to uterus and cervix but has not spread to the pelvic area. Stage III is when cancer has spread past the uterus, cervix and pelvic regions to the vagina. Stage IV is when cancer has reached other organs such as the rectum, bladder, liver and the lungs.

Surgery that removes of the uterus (a hysterectomy) is the most common treatment option used to treat early stage cervical cancer. A hysterectomy will cure cancer of the cervix in the early stages, but women cannot become pregnant after this procedure.

Radiation therapy is a treatment option that uses high-powered X-rays or other radiation to kill the cancer cells. It is a very effective treatment for early-stage cervical cancer. For women who are in more advanced stages radiation is combined with chemotherapy for better results.

Chemotherapy is another treatment option. It uses drugs to stop cancer cells from growing. Usually the drugs are injected into a vein and they kill cancer cells as they travel throughout the body.

Cervical cancer is most treatable when caught in the early stages and this why it is imperative for women to consult their doctor whenever they notice any signs or symptoms to prevent it from spreading.

Many people would be interested in knowing about lung cancer information. Lung cancer begins in the lungs and is the leading cause of death in the U.S. Both men and women are diagnosed with lung cancer every single year, and most do turn out being deadly. There are many things that can be done to prevent them, depending on how soon lung cancer is diagnosed.

There are many different lung cancer symptoms. There are also lung cancer signs that fall under the same area. People that experience any of these signs and symptoms definitely seek medical help right away. Some people may experience signs such as a new cough that does not go away at all, changes in a chronic cough or smoker’s cough that one already has. Other symptoms consist of coughing up blood, shortness of breath, wheezing, chest pain, bone pain, headache, and weight loss. You can talk to your doctor if you want to try and stop smoking to prevent lung cancer.

Smoking is one of the biggest and most common causes of lung cancer. There are many tests that can be ran to diagnose a person with lung cancer. X-rays and even CT scans can be taken to diagnose a person with lung cancer. CT scans can reveal small lesions in a person’s lungs. Sputum cytology’s can also be done to diagnose lung cancer, as well as tissue samples of abnormal cells. There are four stages to lung cancer. The first stage consists of cancer that has just begun and in the lungs only. The last stage of lung cancer is when the cancer has spread to other serious parts of the body such as the brain. Most people do not make it out of this stage. That is why detection in lung cancer is very important in order for an effective treatment.

Lung cancer treatment depends on the severity of the lung cancer, as well as the stage that a person is already in. Treatments can go from surgery to chemo. Surgery can be given if a person is in stage 1. Chemotherapy can be given as well in this first stage, but for the most part surgery is the most used treatment. If a person is in stage 2, they can get surgery, chemo, or even radiation. Stage 3 treatment can consist of chemo and radiation combined. Based on the results, surgery can be given as well in this stage. Chemotherapy and radiation can be given in the second stage of stage 3. There is a stage A and B in stage 3. In the last stage of lung cancer, patients can receive chemo, clinical trials, supportive care, and even drug therapy.

The earlier that lung cancer is detected, the more successul the treatment will be. Lung cancer does have preventive measures and people really need to take them into consideration if they want to prevent it from developing. Smokers that want to continue to smoke should really get their regular check-ups with their doctors to make sure there is no cancer detected. Your health is really at risk when smoking. Once you recognize lung cancer signs, you can do whatever you can to catch the cancer at it’s earliest stage possible. Symptoms will get more severe, the later the stage that a person is in.

Going through life with a disabling disease that no one can physically see can test your patience. You do not look sick is one of the comments people with fibromyalgia hears all the time. Luckily, now days, it is easier to point people to fibromyalgia information, because it has finally become a widely recognized disease. The internet has a tremendous amount of information from places like the Mayo Clinic and other reputable medical centers. Most of the trustworthy sites include information on what the disease is, how doctors diagnose it, and what treatments might help. You can also find forums online. Belonging to one of the forums can help tremendously, because you will find that other people have the same problems and you will not feel so alone. Sometimes people on the forums have ideas that you may not have known about. Though no cure exists, people can manage the symptoms.

The main fibromyalgia symptoms include pain, usually widespread, and fatigue. The pain, sometimes quite severe, involves the whole body, and the person never knows from day to day where they will hurt. Weather, stress, and sometimes noises can actually aggravate and make the pain worse. While doctors do not know for sure why these people feel the pain they do, some believe that the person has an increased sensitivity to sensory stimuli. No matter what causes fibromyalgia, the pain is very real. The fact that most patients with fibromyalgia seldom achieve the deep restorative sleep level people need to reach to feel fully rested could be the cause of the fatigue. Sometimes the person wakes up feeling as if they worked all night, making it difficult to move, because their muscles hurt and feel weak. Other symptoms of fibromyalgia include forgetfulness, depression, anxiety, irritability, mood changes, and poor concentration.

Diagnosing fibromyalgia can prove quite difficult. The doctor could do laboratory tests and x-rays, but these tests cannot help with the diagnosis. The fibromyalgia signs the doctor will look for include irritable bowel syndrome, tension headaches, and migraines, a complete history of your symptoms will help. During the exam, the doctor will check the “tender points” located in 18 specific spots on the body. When the doctor presses on these points the patient with fibromyalgia will feel pain, while someone else will feel only pressure. For the doctor to diagnosis the patient with fibromyalgia, the patient must feel pain when the doctor presses on at least 11 out of 18 of the sites. Each person with fibromyalgia is different and the symptoms can occur in many different combinations, because of this, the treatment will also vary from person to person.

A customized fibromyalgia treatment plan has proven quite successful. With a combination of exercise, patient education, reduction of stress and medications, the patient can lead a productive life. Swimming is one of the best exercises because it has a low impact on the muscles. You should pay attention to your body and learn to pace yourself. Too much exercise can create more pain, so start with small steps and increase as you go. Educate yourself about the disease by researching online, join forums and groups. Reducing stress by using biofeedback and counseling will help, but having the support of your family and friends is paramount. Pay attention to what you eat and drink. Some people have benefitted from changing their diet. The list of medications will depend on your symptoms, and you should treat any other conditions you may have. You may have to try several types of medication to find the one that works best for you, but the result will make it well worth the trials.

Schizophrenia is a mental illness that affects a variety of individuals. Schizophrenia information is available to any individual who feels that they may be suffering from this sometimes debilitating illness. A psychologist, or psychiatrist can easily diagnose or rule out a mental illness such as schizophrenia. There are local mental health facilities in most all areas in the U.S. that can evaluate and give an appropriate diagnosis. There is also information that can be accessed online which can provide you with information on treatment centers and non-profit support groups.

Although there is a great deal of information available about this particular illness nothing should take the place of seeking the assistance of a qualified psychologist or psychiatrist. Schizophrenia is a mental disorder or illness. Schizophrenia Symptoms include (hallucinations), delusions, disorganized speech, disorganized thinking, impairent in social cognition, paranoia, and social isolation. Schizophrenia signs and symptoms help to distinguish schizophrenia from other mental illnesses. Schizophrenia has positive and negative symptoms.

Positive symptoms are behaviors that are not normally seen in most individuals but are exhibited by individuals with schizophrenia. These behaviors include delusions, disorganized thought patterns and speech. Other positive symptoms are tactile, auditory, visual, olfactory and gustatory hallucinations. Negative symptoms of schizophrenia refers to the lack of a normal emotional response or thought process. Individuals exhibiting negative symptoms will display a blunt or flat affect, alogia, anhedonia, asociality, and avolition. Antipsychotics are used to treat schizophrenia.

Schizophrenia treatment helps to reduce symptoms and lessen the probability that symptoms will return. Antipsychotics are used to treat the symptoms of schizophrenia but are not a cure. Antipsychotics reduce a patients psychotic symptoms allowing for a better quality of life. Although these drugs are helpful they are more effective on the positive symptoms of schizophrenia rather than the negative symptoms. Antipsychotics or neuroleptics improve chemical imbalance in the brain. These drugs may also be more effective on patients who are resistant to older drugs. Although they are effective they have some adverse side effects.

These side effects include sleepiness, weight gain, restlessness, muscle contraction, and problems with movement. A condition called tardive dyskinesia which is an inability to control movement is also a possible side effect. Other drugs referred to as atypical drugs have fewer side effects. Atypical drugs used to treat the psychotic symptoms of schizophrenia are classified as dibenzepines. This type of drug is considered atypical because the side effects are different than the coventional antipychotics that are used to treat schizophrenia. Extra pyrammidal side effects (EPS) are less likely to occur with atypical drugs.

Drugs used to treat schizophrenia include clozapine(Clozaril), loxapine(Loxitane), olanzapine(Zyprexa) and quetiapine(Seroquel). Clozapine is a drug that is taken orally and is only used when other drugs have not been effective. Loxapine is also a drug that is taken orally. This drug helps patients mental problems and helps them to maintain reality. Olanzapine is an atypical drug taken orally that is used to treat schizophrenia, biolar disorder, and psychotic disorders. Quetiapine is taken orally and is also used to treat schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder.

Medications in combination with supportive and problem focused therapy can help improve a patients ability to cope. Teaching skills such as behavioral techniques and social skills can help a patient function in the work or social environment. Family treatments that focus on educating the family about schizophrenia and its symptoms can help improve a patients quality of life.

Basic psoriasis information
Psoriasis is a non-contagious skin disease that may be a reaction to stress or other factors in a person’s environment. The occurrence of psoriasis may also be the result of the absence of certain hormones. In the most common form of psoriasis layers of skin-cells form on the outer surface of the skin. These layers of skin may appear as scales or “plaques”. The process behind this is due to the speed with which new skin cells are generated. In a person who does not have this disease new skin cells replace the old ones over a period of weeks whereas in a person with psoriasis this replacement happens in a matter of days, resulting in a buildup of skin. This buildup is what appears as the thickened skin plaques. In fairer skinned people, these plaques look red or pink, in darker skinned people they look like darker-than-normal skin.

Other psoriasis symptoms
Psoriasis can present in a number of different ways apart from skin dis-figuration. In some cases the persons fingernails and toenails can be affected causing a condition called nail dystrophy. In the nail dystrophy associated with psoriasis, the fingernails and toenails become discolored and separate from the nail bed. Psoriasis can affect the joints making them swell, this is called psoriatic arthritis.

Psoriasis and heredity
Psoriasis is hereditary. While the cause of psoriasis has yet to be pinpointed, researchers have figured out how it gets passed down. If one of a child’s parents has the condition, that child has a 25% chance of getting the disease. If both parents have it then the child has a 50% chance of having psoriasis signs show up at some point.

Age and psoriasis
The disease tends to show up primarily in two age groups. The first age group is people between the ages of 20 and 30. The second in people who are between the ages of 50 and 60. This latter form of psoriasis is often referred to as “late onset psoriasis”.

Skin care and psoriasis treatment
With mild cases of psoriasis, which is most of them, the main aspect of treating the condition will be the use of skin emollients, or moisturizers. The vast majority of psoriasis sufferers are able to keep the disease in check with only the use of these topical skin creams. There are also shampoos and soaps that will help to control psoriasis. Applying skin creams to the plaques will make them easy to peel off. The effects of applying skin creams to the plaques on a regular basis will usually occur within 8 weeks. The results of treatment are usually seen more quickly if it is consistently applied. Other recommendations for treating psoriasis include (limited) exposure ultra violet light and using tar based products.

Triggers of psoriasis
While in many cases psoriasis is a relatively random disease with no consistent triggers, certain things have been reported as causing outbreaks. These triggers include stress, a change in climate, too much exposure to sunlight, and injury to the skin. Psoriasis that occurs as a reaction to a skin injury does so as a result of what is known as Koebner’s phenomenon and can occur even when the injury is minor. A skin lesion occurs at the point of the trauma. In some cases mild friction alone is sufficient to cause an outbreak. In women a flare-up of psoriasis may occur in coincidence with smoking. Certain drugs like beta-blockers and lithium are also thought to result in outbreaks of psoriasis.

The most common form of arthritis is Osteoarthritis or degenerative joint disease. It occurs when joint cartilage breaks down, which can happen over time. Osteoarthritis Symptoms often develop slow, and then gradually worsen. The cause of Osteoarthritis is unclear; though researchers believe it to be a combination of factors such as: the aging process, stress or injury to joints, obesity, heredity, and/or muscle weakness. If you are experiencing some discomfort from what you believe to be Osteoarthritis you may want to see a physician for more Osteoarthritis Information and treatment.

Osteoarthritis Signs and Symptoms: The most common symptom is joint pain, they may hurt with movement and often times become stiff causing the loss of ability. Stiffness is not uncommon after periods of inactivity; like after a nap, or a nights sleep. The joints may be tender to the touch, or even make a crackling noise when moved. You can develop bone spurs; which feel like hard lumps that have formed around the effected area. Smaller joints like in your fingers may enlarge causing a loss of flexibility, as you lose the ability to move them in their full range of motion. Your toes may develop bunions; causing them to become red and swollen. Some people will notice the physical changes long before they experience the symptoms of pain.

There are additional Osteoarthritis Tests and Diagnosis that a physician can request aside from their initial exam. An x-ray can show a gap between the joint where the cartilage is breaking down. An x-ray would also indicate any bone spurs that may be developing around the joint. An MRI can view things that wont show on a regular x-ray (like soft tissue) to better the chances of seeing what’s causing the pain. Another common test is lab work. As much as some of us try to avoid the needle; blood work can help to rule out other causes of joint pain. Removal of some of the fluid from the effected area can be tested to check for things such as gout or infection.

Unfortunetly there is no cure for arthritis, but there is Osteoarthritis Treatment available. There are over the counter pain killers that may help with the first onset of pain with Osteoarthritis Symptoms but as the cartilage continues to breakdown and the joints become more irritated, you may find you need additional treatment. Your physician can prescribe you pain killers, or recommend cortizone shots. Another injection procedure called Viscosupplementation; which is commonly used in the knee joints. Currently they are researching its use in other joints as this provides cushioning in the knees. You may opt for a drug and needle free approach with therapy where you can learn to avoid joint stress. Those with finger joint pain may want to use a toothbrush with a wider grip, and knee pain suffers could use a special seat in the shower to relieve the pain of standing. If all else fails there are surgical procedures such as joint replacement, fusing or realigning of bones that be performed as well.

If your joints are experiencing swelling or stiffness that prolongs for more than a couple weeks at a time, see your physician. Talk over the treatment options with them to help decide on the one that will work best for you. If you are already taking medication and you are experiencing side effects such as: nausea, abdominal pain, drowsiness, constipation or black tarry stool, make an appointment with your doctor and see about trying something else.
